Spend a relaxing afternoon with us in the bustling seaside town of Sitges! Being famous for its arts and vibrant LGBTIQ+ scene the coastal city has much to discover: from beaches to cultural events, beautiful architectural buildings to picturesque little streets.
Let us stroll from the train station – where we arrive after a quick ride on the commuter train from Barcelona – towards the old town. Here you will discover the first special character of the city. Magnificent houses in the style of Modernism, the Catalan Art Nouveau. They were built by the so-called Americanos.
On the way to the sea, we will come through lively shopping streets, or rather alleys. Sitges was first a seaside resort for bohemians and the wealthy Catalan bourgeoisie from Barcelona. That’s why the place was spared long rows of giant hotels. And just a step around the corner by the historic church: a panoramic view from an elevated point of view over the Mediterranean Sea together with the gently rolling bay. From here, where fishermen used to land, the beach promenade stretches over three kilometers lined with many palm trees. This is the pure Mediterranean feeling!
While we walk we will not only explain you the history of Sitges, its artistic and cultural scene - many annual festivals bring crowds of people to the seaside town. We will also dive into the LGBT history and enjoy a drink on a terrace!
