PARIS

Paris - Highlight tour - 3 hours

HIGHLIGHTS OF PARIS: QUEER PERSPECTIVES

A great introduction to Paris and its main monuments, this tour is also a way to discover many LGBTQIA+ people who lived here and areas where the community used to hang out before the Marais became Paris’ gay area.

You cannot come to Paris without seeing THE Highlights: Concorde Square, Champs-Elysées, Arc de Triomphe, Tuileries Gardens, Vendôme Square, Opera House and so much more. On this tour you will have the chance to admire them all and also discover secret parts of the city that not many tourists get to see.

On our way, you will also learn the queer history of the city, with the famous French poets Colette and Cocteau who lived right by the Louvre, Napoleon’s views on same sex relationships and the place where the last two people were arrested then burned at the stake for homosexuality.

Paris - Louvre Tour

UNVEILING THE QUEERNESS OF THE LOUVRE

This tour of the Louvre will not only take you to the most important masterpieces of the most visited museum in the world, but also through the history of same-sex relationships from Antiquity to the Renaissance.

How many times around the world a teacher has given an Art History class about the Mona Lisa without even mentioning the fact that Leonardo da Vinci was gay and that this painting was possibly a portrait of his lover? How many times one has praised Michelangelo’s sculptures without imagining his hidden admiration of the male body that pushed him to such perfection in art?

This tour offers a more inclusive interpretation of the most famous works of art and brings to light queer details hidden in some of them. While going towards the Sphinx of Tanis, the Venus of Milo, the Victory of Samothrace or the Mona Lisa, we will also stop in front of a selection of works that allow us to understand how queer relationships were seen, from ancient Mesopotamia, Egypt, Greece and Rome all the way to the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.

Paris - LGBTIQ* struggles and lifestyle

artists, kings and queens who lived queer lives in Paris from the Renaissance to the present day.

"Liberty, Equality, Fraternity" was one of the rallying cries during the French Revolution and it remains France’s national motto. Join this tour to learn about what this meant to people in the Parisian LGBTQIA+ community throughout the centuries.

Passing former literary salons, libraries, and cafés, you will learn the stories of writers, artists and activists for LGBTQIA+ rights who lived non-conformist lives in Paris: Natalie Clifford Barney, Sylvia Beach, Oscar Wilde, Josephine Baker, Monique Wittig. We will not forget to mention our queer kings and queens, before ending the tour in the Marais, the community's most important current area.
