When visiting Hamburg, the so-called red light district is a must. St. Pauli is not only interesting for the sex, music and party scene – but for the social challenges it faces.
Starting at the Millerntorplatz, you will learn about the city’s French epoch. The ramparts, which served as city fortifications, also date from this time. You will see Hadi Teherani’s ‘Dancing Towers’ and the Mojo Club on the site of the former Astra Bowling Alley. Passing through the ‘Hafenkrankenhaus’, you will make your way to the harbour’s edge. Right at the back of the Hotel Hafen Hamburg, you will enjoy impressive views over the jetties and the ‘Alten Elbtunnel’.
Going back in time to the hanseatic period, you will visit the ‘Brauquartier’. Hamburg was once considered the brewery of the ‘Hanseatic League’.
The tour will continue through the Spielbudenplatz and the Reeperbahn, past the docks and the ‘Davidwache’ until you are right in the middle of the red light district. Here, you will learn more about prostitution and diverse sexual preferences, which you can live out later on, if you like. Strolling through the Tal- and Schmuckstrasse up to the Großen Freiheit, you will reach the former ‘Denmark’. Visiting the place that saw The Beatles become famous and lots of shops. From music clubs and booze bars to table dance clubs or a Catholic church and the Startclub or the Oliva Jonse bars, St. Pauli will not run low in offerings. From there, you will pass by the ‘Nobistor’ back to Hamburg, where the tour will come to an end.
