Dresden - Highlights

The beauty of Dresden's cityscape has impressed visitors for centuries. And numerous artists have contributed to it or been inspired by it. Often undiscovered are the traces of Dresden's gay history. According to Goethe's word "You only see what you know", you can discover Dresden from different angles together with me.

This tour starts at the Theaterplatz stop under the columns of the Schinkelwache and takes you past the Semper Opera House, through the baroque Zwingerhof to the Dresden Frauenkirche. You will discover examples from Dresden's socialist past, shapely male bodies made of sandstone or bronze and learn many an interesting anecdote.

Of course, I will also give my personal recommendations on how you can individually discover Dresden and its gay side after the tour.

Glamour, Drama and Indulgence - Dresden's Gay Side

A gay art dealer, a famous archaeologist who was murdered by a hustler, a gay Scottish count who found his new home and love in exile in Dresden, a brilliant Art Nouveau artist whose covers for popular novel books were banned, the first transgender woman, who underwent gender reassignment surgery, a gay composer who stirred up Dresden's cultural scene and was able to flee the Nazis in time - these are just some of the personalities whose traces guests can explore on this half-day tour.

Ideally, it starts after lunch in the old town, leads through the historically significant Trinity Cemetery to Blasewitz, which is famous for its unique villa architecture. The beauty of the Dresden Elbe valley becomes clear when crossing the historic steel bridge "Blaues Wunder". The next stop is Loschwitz - an old wine village with architectural gems and unique evidence of the history of technology. There are several opportunities to take a coffee break along the way.

Continue to the Loschwitz Elbe Castles and their English parks, where you can enjoy a glass of wine with a view of the Elbe Valley when the weather is nice.

The last stop on the tour is the lively life of Dresden Neustadt. This multicultural neighborhood is where the city's contemporary gay life beats.

Now you can explore the gay-friendly restaurants or gay pubs and bars on your own or extend the tour individually. The tour takes 4 hours by bike and 5 hours by public transport.
