Colonia del Sacramento, World Cultural Heritage by Unesco, better known as Colonia is one of the main tourist cities of Uruguay. It is located on the side of the Rio de La Plata and with its charm, fascinates the hundreds of tourists who walk and enjoy its classic cobbled streets and beautiful walks.
Founded by the Portuguese in 1680 on the Río de la Plata, the city was of strategic importance in resisting the Spanish. After being disputed for a century, it was finally lost by its founders. The well-preserved urban landscape illustrates the successful fusion of the Portuguese, Spanish and post-colonial styles.
Colonia is the tourist destination par excellence for those looking for tranquility, history, good food and some movie sunsets. Any time of the year is a good time to visit its lighthouse, its churches, the colonial houses, the bullring and its 8 museums that have an enormous cultural value
